Hiking for Healing

£15.00

33 Lessons on Life, Death and Broken-in Boots on the Camino de Santiago

Hardback pre-order: delivery expected early 2025

El Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of St. James, is a globally revered, centuries-old Spanish pilgrimage known for the profound personal growth and healing it stirs within its pilgrims. Something Amy White wasn’t quite prepared for…

Hiking for Healing is a witty, illustrative account of the Camino de Santiago by a troubled, under-prepared hiking novice. Transcribed directly from the pages of her well-worn journal, Amy gives a daily written dose of the hiking trail that translates into an authentic and entertaining read, encompassing her journey through grief after the loss of her grandmother, bestowing upon her the ‘33 Lessons on Life and Death.’ Here are three to start with:

  • "Have some faith in humanity. People can be really nice."

  • "When we have the strength and perspective to accept what is, we cultivate peace within us."

  • "Do not drink a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and then attempt to hike 30km in the Spanish sun. Make good choices."

Note from the Author

"It's my hope to change the status quo around how we see death and grief here in the UK in a funny, light way, through my story. It's full of Yorkshire-isms and personal anecdotes growing up with my late 'nannan' here in Sheffield, as well as some really funny (and wise) Spanish idioms.

My other hope is to show the reader that, if I can do it (with no training, being a former pessimist with little to no confidence) so can they. The Camino quite literally changed everything for me, and I am who I am today because of it; my spirituality, self-love and acceptance of death all happened on the path. And you’ll see exactly how it happened in Hiking for Healing."
